SUPERHERO PHARMACY INITIATIVE Toolkit
Behind every prescription, there is a person
OD Free Marin invites our local pharmacies to be Superheroes by integrating training about Medications for Addiction Treatment into staff onboarding and ongoing training, using the roadmap of 4 Easy Steps and this online toolkit for resources and support.
Welcome – A Clinician’s Welcome and A Patient’s Story
Step 1: Train staff to understand Medications for Addiction Treatment
There are a lot of misconceptions about Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT). Train your pharmacy staff to know the facts about how MAT saves lives, using one or more of the resources provided here. You can opt to read informational documents, watch an asynchronous video training (coming August 2025), or request a live zoom or in person training with OD Free Marin staff.

Step 2: Train staff to have supportive interactions with patients taking Medications for Addiction Treatment
Interactions with pharmacy staff can make a big difference in a patient’s treatment and recovery experience. Train your pharmacy staff to have supportive interactions, use non-stigmatizing language, and uphold the dignity of each person behind the prescription. You can use videos that spotlight the stories of real patients, read information on the best language to use, or request a live zoom or in person training with OD Free Marin staff.
Step 3: Make Your Support Visible
Show Your Superhero Support
Marin community members say that when they know they will be supported at the pharmacy, it relieves anxiety and makes it more likely that they will continue their medication.
Once you’ve integrated steps 1 and 2 into your training plan for pharmacy staff, let us know and we will deliver a poster to your pharmacy that spotlights your Superhero Status and show your patients that they are welcome, supported, and that you care.

Step 4: Keep Up to Date as More Tools and Resources are Added
Coming Soon
